MEET OUR FOUNDER
Susan Lengowski is the Founder and Principal Instructor of Movement Studio by Susan Lengowski. She is fully certified in all Level 1 disciplines of STOTT Pilates — including Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels — as well as in the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods. Known for her perceptive, patient, and dynamic teaching style, Susan brings both energy and precision to her sessions. Her deep understanding of musculature and biomechanics allows her to craft highly personalised movement programmes that deliver lasting, functional results.
Susan’s journey into movement education began after a promising career as a classical ballerina. She started dancing at the age of eight under the guidance of esteemed mentors, including Taiwanese ballerina Huang Bi Lian and Leon Koning of the Dutch National Ballet, then Ballet Master at Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. At 15, she was accepted into the dance programme at the prestigious National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA), and later awarded a full scholarship to train at the internationally renowned Vienna Municipal Conservatory in Austria — becoming the first Taiwanese dancer to graduate from the institution.
Susan went on to perform as a soloist with the now-defunct Four Seasons Dance Company (四季舞团), under the tutelage of Gabriela Komleva of the Kirov Ballet (Mariinsky Ballet) — one of the world’s leading ballet companies. She also trained under ballet greats such as Karl Musil, acclaimed choreographer and principal dancer of the Vienna State Opera, and Evelyn Teri-Berkenhoff, a renowned performer, the principal teacher for ballet, artistic project director and a professor at the Conservatory of Vienna. However, her professional dance career was cut short by serious ankle and hip injuries. During rehabilitation, Susan discovered the restorative power of Pilates — an experience that inspired her to begin teaching in 2005.
A dedicated lifelong learner, Susan believes that instructors must evolve so their students can progress. She holds additional certifications in Myofascial Release Therapy, RockTape Kinesiology, ZEN.GA, REDCORD, and TRX, allowing her to take a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to every client — supporting strength, recovery, and pain-free movement for life.
Susan’s Philosophy on Movement
“Movement is not just about appearance. While graceful motions can be beautiful, it is the solid and foundational patterns that truly sustain us. Proper use of fascia stimulates the smaller stabilizing muscles and supports the larger global muscles, allowing the body to function at its best.
This kind of intelligent movement carries us through every stage of life: pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, recovery from illness or surgery, and into older age. Neglecting these basics can lead to injury, but training with precision and awareness builds resilience, improves posture, and protects alignment.
We are not here only to look slim or elegant. The deeper goal is strength, vitality, and freedom from pain. My mission has always been to guide others toward healthier, stronger bodies through mindful practice.
When the body moves with balance and clarity, the mind becomes sharper, the soul feels lighter, and the spirit grows stronger. Intelligent movement is both science and art, it is the path to lasting change.”
